4/26/10--JJ Pearce Orchestra accolades
from Houston
As you may know the Pearce
Orchestras returned from our trip to the Space City Music Showcase in Houston,
TX this past Monday. Not only did the orchestras perform well, they literally
“took the cake.” Both the Non-Varsity and Varsity Orchestras won “superior”
ratings from all three judges, the top rating possible.
In addition, our Varsity
Orchestra received “Best in Class” for being the best 4A Orchestra and “Best
Overall” for being the best orchestra in attendance at the festival.
This has only happened one other time in the Pearce Orchestra’s
history.
If you have the time, stop by
and see our giant trophies from this contest! Also following the
contest, the orchestra group celebrated at Schlitterbahn Galveston, Stewart
beach, NASA, Houston Dynamos soccer game, and the Galleria. Many thanks to
our wonderful director Melissa Livings, assistant director Jason Bolak, as
well as staff and parent chaperones who generously gave their time to be part
of this trip.
3/09/10--Orchestra UIL Results: (Click
for Photos)
The Non-Varsity String Orchestra, under the direction of
Jason Bolak, earned “Excellent” ratings (2’s) in both categories. This is the 2ndhighest
rating an orchestra can get and we could not be prouder on their work and growth
over the semester on some very difficult music.
The Varsity Full Orchestra, under the direction of Melissa
Livings, earned “Superior” ratings (1’s) in both categories. This is known in
the music world as a Sweepstakes, the highest honor at UIL. This is the 7thyear
in a row that our Varsity has earned this rating so that makes the
accomplishment ever sweeter to us. We also owe our thanks to our band program at
Pearce who contributed wind, brass, and percussionists to this ensemble.
