The PHS Combined Orchestras represented RISD and the State of Texas as they competed in the Dixie Classic Music Festival in Chicago, IL on April 9. They were awarded "Superior" ratings from all judges, and were also awarded "Most Outstanding String Orchestra" of the festival! This award represents both string and full orchestras.

Sixty-four orchestra students, representing the Pearce Symphonic, Philharmonic, and Chamber Music Orchestras traveled to Chicago April 7-11, 2011, to participate in the competition. They were accompanied by Melissa Livings (PHS Orchestra Director), Matt Cross (PHS Assistant Orchestra Director), and Jacob Cortez (Assistant Principal-Freshmen), as well as several parent chaperones.

In announcing the results of the competition, Ms. Livings exclaimed, "It is a great honor for our students, and they have worked extremely hard in a very short time to achieve this. We are proud of all the students and their work."

Congratulations to the orchestra students and directors on a job well done!
