Orchestra registration is scheduled for Friday, August 21, 2009 in the
orchestra room. All orchestra students are requested to attend. The schedule is
broken up according to grade: Seniors noon-2 pm, Juniors 2-4 pm, Sophomores 4-6
pm, and Freshman 6-8 pm. If you cannot make it at the appointed time, please
come any time between noon and 8 pm. Your visit should last less than an hour.
BE PREPARED:
- Wear athletic shorts and a T-shirt so you can try on a uniform over
them. Bring the dress shoes you will wear with your uniform so hems can be
marked. This applies to both girls and boys.
- Bring your medical insurance card. A photocopy will make things even
easier.
- Bring a check to pay for fees. You may want another check to order
spirit items.
- Come with a parent, if possible, to get signatures out of the way.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
At registration, you can expect the following:
- Pick up the 2009-2010 Orchestra Handbook and complete required forms.
Several require parent signatures. The medical form must be notarized. We
hope to have a notary available.
- Pay required and optional program fees (checks made out to PAOC): $75
Operations fee (required) $15 Uniform/Cleaning fee (waived if student has
own approved uniform) $15 Orchestra T-shirt (required) $10 Region fee
(required for Chamber and Honors Orchestras) $75 Instrument rental (Bass,
Cello, etc)
- Fitting of uniforms. We have new uniforms this year! Black formal
dresses for girls and tuxedos for boys. Your uniform will be marked for
hemming at the fitting. Female cellists may opt to wear black pants and a
dressy top instead.
- Order optional orchestra spirit items: - Extra T-shirts - Hoodies -
Decals - Yard signs
- Attend Charms training with Ms. Livings. Learn how to keep your contact
information up to date as well as access the online calendar, handouts,
practice records and much more.
Parents, if you cannot attend registration with your child, you may download
forms to sign and send with him or her. Visit http://www.charmsoffice.com, enter
schoolcode PearceHSOrch, and click on Handouts on the following page. Please
sign the Handbook Acknowledgment and Extracurricular Agreement. The Medical
Release form must be notarized. If your child will be renting an instrument, the
rental agreement near the back of the handbook should also be signed.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
NOTARIES: we are in need of one or more to notarize medical forms at
registration. If you are a notary and could help for 2, 4, or 8 hours at
registration, please contact PAOC President Steve Kaualoku at Skaualoku0@aol.com.
PARENTS: can you help out with registration? We can use help any time
from noon to 8 pm, especially the earlier hours. It's low-stress work and you
get to meet all the best kids at Pearce. Contact Steve Kaualoku to volunteer.
STUDENTS: if you would like to volunteer to help at registration,
please contact Ms. Livings at melissa.livings@risd.org. This is especially
important if you intend to run for orchestra officer.
PAOC BOARD: The Board of the Pearce Area Orchestra Club is in need of
a treasurer, volunteer coordinator, and a lead for the spring banquet. Contact
Steve Kaualoku to volunteer.
We're looking forward to seeing you on August 21!
