PEARCE HONORS MUSIC ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

 FALL/SPRING

ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED AND TURNED IN TO THE DIRECTOR'S OFFICE BY THE DATES INDICATED BELOW TO EARN CREDIT.  FAILURE TO TURN IN AN ASSIGNMENT WILL RESULT IN A LOWER SEMESTER TEST GRADE TO ADJUST FOR HONORS POINTS NOT EARNED BY THE STUDENT.

 

INDICATED BELOW ARE THE PROJECTS YOU WILL COMPLETE TO EARN HONORS CREDIT FOR THE YEAR:

 

_______September 11               Honors Application Due

 

_______September/October      Prepare all of the TMEA All Region audition music during the fall and complete scheduled pass-offs.

 

_______October 17                  Audition for All Region Orchestra unless waived by director. 

 

_______December 14               Fall Research paper or other director-approved project due.

 

______December 14               Fall Concert reports due (one professional/one amateur).  

 

______ January-April               Prepare a director-approved solo or ensemble at the RISD Chamber Music Festival. 

                                                 

______ April 24                       Perform a director-approved solo or ensemble at the RISD Chamber Music Festival unless waived by the director.

 

______May 21                        Spring Research Paper or other director-approved project due.

 

______May 21                        Spring Concert Reports due (one professional/one amateur).

 

CONCERT REPORTS

Attendance of two performances approved in advance by the director each semester.  Documentation of these performances will include:

¨      a program or ticket stub

¨      a minimum of a two page critique of the performance

The paper will be double-spaced, using Times New Roman font with 12 point size, and will reflect the writing quality, content, and construction expected of an Honors student.  These papers will be graded for writing quality and content, and that grade will be factored into your average for the six weeks per the district guidelines.

 

RESEARCH PAPER

The Honors orchestra student must complete a research paper on a topic approved by the director.  The paper must be a minimum of six pages typed, double-spaced, using Times New Roman font with 12 point size. The paper must contain footnotes. A minimum of three sources is required. The paper must reflect the writing quality, content, and construction expected of an Honors student.
