Orchestra members, friends, and family,
Celebrate the end of UIL by joining us at Chipotle and raising money for your JJP Orchestra at the same time! We get a 50% return on all monies spent that evening, so join us for dinner this Thursday, March 2nd, and make sure to either show the cashier the flyer or tell them that you are supporting the J.J.Pearce High School Orchestra before you pay.
The J.J. Pearce Area Orchestra Club (PAOC) is proud to award a scholarship to five Pearce High School Orchestra members for use toward the May 2017 Spring Trip. These one-time scholarships are in the amount of $100 each. The PAOC Treasurer will make a $100 disbursement to each recipient’s Charms Ledger Trip Balance. You must be current on your trip balance to apply for the scholarship.
Evaluation of candidates for scholarship selection is based on the following criteria:
School and Community Activities
Participation in Orchestra during High School
Applications are due to the Orchestra Directors by February 22, 2017. No late or incomplete applications will be considered. Presentation of the scholarships will be made by March 10, 2017.
Congratulations to Darren Carter, JJ Pearce Orchestra Member, for playing a “class 1” (hardest) solo memorized. He will advance to the State UIL Competition and is also set to perform in the All-State String Orchestra next week at TMEA.
As you may know Pearce is hosting both Pre-UIL and UIL this year so I am in need of many volunteers to make these events work. Even if you have never been able to help the orchestra before please donate your time in this case if you can. There are flexible options available for parents and in/out of school options for students. Students from all orchestras are needed. Absences will be coded as “school related.”
It is that time of the year—our annual holiday party is this Saturday, December 10th. It will be hosted by the Braht’s (2402 Skyview Dr, 75080) from 7-10 pm. We’re going to have a gingerbread house decorating contest and a Super Smash Bros tournament, as well as a ton of cookies and food. If you can help bringing something again, we’d really appreciate it. Sign up here to bring food: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E4EA9AE2A1-christmas
Also, next week we continue our annual Holiday tradition of White Elephant gift exchanges/party on exam day (your final exam was your concert). Stephanie and Oscar came to class to explain this and there will also be a sign with info. Here’s the gist:
2nd/5th pd: Thursday, Dec. 16/4th pd: Friday, Dec 17
Everyone, bring a wrapped gift (gender-neutral is best) to be part of the White Elephant gift exchange game; it’s not required but you are going to want to participate. It can be inexpensive, a re-gift, simple gift card or something creative. You probably have something in you house right now. Wrapping can be nice or not; your choice but do make sure it is covered. Everyone leaves with somethign.
We’ll also have a party that day so bring cards, food/desserts, games etc. to share with your orchestra friends. Don’t have an exam during one of the periods above? Join another orchestra’s fun.
Entry/Exit: All parents/audience members will enter through the door by the Blackbox Theatre (just to the West of the Auditorium along the circle drive). The foyer to the auditorium will be filled with auction items so we are asking that everyone please use only the exit by the Blackbox.
Sweets: Dessert pre-order tickets will be available at the entrance by the Blackbox; if you did not pre-order for desserts/beverages you may purchase tickets on site (first come-first serve availability). Please limit food/drink consumption to the designated area in the foyer outside the Blackbox. No food or drink is allowed in the auction area (auditorium foyer) or the auditorium itself. All proceeds benefit the orchestra kids directly.
Auction: Come ready to do some holiday shopping at our Silent Auction when not watching groups play. We will have a variety of items open for bidding in the auditorium foyer (like our own “Black Friday”! You do not have to be present to win; cash, check and credit card payments accepted. All proceeds benefit our orchestra.

The other events are optional but strongly encouraged and SUPER FUN! Come decorate banners and play on an “advanced” instrument. Thank you in advance for keeping this time open in your calendar.
